"The Guides for Ghenghis Khan's Home Waters"About Mongolia River OutfittersMongolia River Outfitters provides guided fly-fishing adventures for Taimen, trout, and grayling. From our private ger camps located in the Mongolian wilderness, we offer discerning clients access to nearly two hundred miles of blue ribbon fly-fishing water. We have run extraordinary Mongolia adventures since 1993 and fly-fishing adventures since 1999. MRO trips are fly-fishing only. We follow a strict catch and release policy and use Aire oar boats with full house casting frames. The fishing is a combination of drift and wade. Our international fly-fishing guides are some of the best professionals in the business. Mongolia River Outfitters is an internationally recognized conservation leader. By fishing with MRO, you will be supporting and investing in local communities and Taimen conservation. For more than a decade, we've been working with local communities to protect Mongolia's free flowing rivers and wild fish. Over the years, we have supported a host of community development, education and regulatory initiatives. In 2007, we launched an exciting new conservation partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). We operate only during late August and September, when fly-fishing in Mongolia is guaranteed to be at its best. Our trips include six days on the river and two evenings in Ulan Bator. We have a departure limit of six anglers. We're a "fly-in/fly-out" and "no shuttle" operation. We don't spend time driving up and down the creek. Every day you fish a new stretch of river while your bags are shuttled overland. Every evening you stay in one of six pre-established and very comfortable streamside ger camps, complete with attentive staff, great food, hot showers, linens, and cozy wood burning stoves. REALLY BIG NEWS! Two wonderful things happened for Taimen in the winter of 2008. First, the Mongolian Government designated all taimen fishing "catch and release". This initiative - supported with the technical assistance of MRO and several other institutions - makes the keeping of taimen anywhere in Mongolia illegal. The second big news item is the creation of the world's first Taimen Sanctuary. Working with our conservation partners WWF and the five "county" governments, we have now protected more than 200 contiguous miles of pristine Mongolian rivers. Our rivers are now the only in Mongolia designated "fly fishing only" for international anglers. These are the only rivers in Mongolia that require all anglers to use "single barbless hooks". And, these are the only rivers in Mongolia where motor boats and permanent streamside development are outlawed. Both the "catch and release" regulation and the "Taimen Sanctuary" are wonderful achievements for taimen conservation. The Mongolian Government deserves high praise for their bold efforts. We couldn't be happier!
